Why do you paddle?
Is it for health benefits? The competitive races? The camaraderie of fellow paddlers? Or maybe it’s just the joy of being on the water?
It can be a very addicting sport, to the point where your friends or family may want you to “Go Paddle” just so you aren’t agitated or moody from not paddling -haha. If you’re addicted to sup you know what I am talking about.
Whatever your reason for paddling, we should remember that this sport is “FUN” and is for “EVERYONE”.
I heard some disturbing news after the race in DC a few weeks ago about a racer belittling another racer in a non joking way. And while I will not mention any names I wanted to say that there is no place for that in this sport, especially in our area.
If you think you are better than everyone you should take that arrogance to California or Hawaii. These races are supposed to be all about having fun and encouraging fellow racers. This will help the sport grow and get more people to these races. This was a very rare incident and I do not think that this is a big issue just somebody being a jerk.
However I wanted to remind everyone to watch what they say, joking or not! While everyone is competitive and that is part of the draw of the sport, nobody is making a living off of racing in our area so there is no reason to take it that serious. You can be competitive and race your ass off without being a DBAG -haha!!
It’s all about the “FUN”
Saw this video on sup the mag’s website and thought it was worth a share!! Pretty awesome
