This past Saturday was a perfect day on the Atlantic Ocean. A bunch of Annapolis and Baltimore guys including Neil Macindo, Bryan Barton, Wyatt Everhart, Basil Tydings, and myself went down to Assateauge Island for some surf and met up with OC locals Ron Gossard, Sandy Deeley, Beth Deeley, Mark Nelson, and Richie Price. We had the lineup to ourselves and the weather was PERFECT.
The waves were not huge but it was glassy and they were fun. Basil Tydings said it best, “Salt Water therapy can cure anything.” After a day surfing with friends you can’t help but smile, there were some good rides and some good laughs. “Shark Barton” as Chip nicknamed him at one point shouted that something big and grey was going after his paddle, Septima just wanted a taste?? ha-ha . We had pods of dolphin all around us, sunny skies, and perfect temps, could not ask for a better day on the water.
I had a close call with a prone board and captured it on video. I had just caught a wave and was paddling back out with the GoPro in my mouth, I stopped paddling to film a few rides (my mistake) and when I looked up there was a prone board tumbling right at me with its FIN UP. I noticed it to late and there was no getting out of the way, all I could do was try and jump over it and for the most part it worked. The fin just scraped my knee and I avoided impalement ha-ha. Check it out and sorry for the breathing and language!
If you have never been to Assateauge to paddle surf you need to do it ASAP!!![vimeo url=”http://vimeo.com/103095481″]
