These are some of the up and coming young guns in the Maryland sup racing world! It is only a matter of time before they all start beating us.
It’s pretty cool to see so many young people getting into the sport and this batch of kids has a head start with multiple races under their belts already.
Since they are the future we wanted to acknowledge them and just warn you THEY ARE COMING FOR YOU!!!
Utaw Cook- 15 yrs old (Edgewater, MD)
Utaw has been paddling for 1 year now. Started paddling with his dad and just enjoys being on the water. Has multiple distance races under his belt now and his favorite place to race is Ocean City, MD
Peter McCulloh- 13 yrs old (Baltimore, MD)
Peter started paddling with his dad and now has multiple distance races under his belt. Peter will be living in Ocean City for the summer and working for Sandy and Ron of Walk On Water so he will get lots of water time in.
Katie and Annie Macindoe- 13 yrs old (Annapolis, MD)
Likes SUP surfing most, but wants to get into distance racing too. Annie Macindoe, age 8, is very eager to follow in the path of SUP racing, the girls will be sharing a 12-6 Infinity race board, and training with Dad this summer.
Kora Cook- 9 yrs old (Edgewater, MD)
From Kora- “I saw my dad and brother paddling and wanted to paddle also.
I like going to different places for the races on the weekends in the summer”
Maggie Marohl- 7 yrs old (Ocean City, MD)
Maggie has been paddling for 2 years and got into the sport because she thought “it was cool”! She enjoys paddling when its glassy and very little wind. Her favorite place to paddle is Fager’s Island because its nice and calm.
Tyler Grove- 12 years old (Annapolis, MD)
Tyler started SUP racing in 2013 when he attended the Sup Annapolis/Kent Island OC1 / OC2 SUP race with his dad Shendan. He enjoyed the kids race so much he decided to try the adult distance next and did the rec race at the Rehobeth Stand-Up Paddlefest and the OC-Fagers Battle Of The Bay on a Surf class board. In 2014, Tyler attended the Carolina Cup with us and completed the Harbor Island 3.5 mile race, finishing second in the under 17 Junior Class and meeting a ton of the pros. Tyler is very excited about paddleboarding and will be helping the family with their Paddleboard business this summer, he is saving up for his first race board.
Lauren, Maggie and Alexis Grove (Annapolis, MD)
Also participated in the Kids races at the OC-Fagers Battle Of The Bay last year and will be participating in more MASRA kids races this season. Lauren and Maggie are talking about doing their first rec distance this year, it’s become a great family activity for the Groves.
Hanna and Ian Lewis- 9 and 7 years old (Harford County, MD)
Hanna and Ian both started with doing tandem races with their dad. Now that they are starting to get older expect them to make the jump to the distance courses real soon!
