Sup Annapolis & Kiocc race was a blast this past Saturday!! Over 100 paddlers from OC, Surfski, Prone, and Sup converged on Kent Island for one of the biggest races in MD. This is a true grass roots fun race that caters to EVERYONE from first timers and elite. There is no prize money or huge awards, its just a fun race that is all about the growth of the sport. If you want prize money the organizers said go somewhere else haha.
Stand Up Paddle Annapolis’s (Sup Annapolis) motto is “We Paddle For The After Party” and that sums it up right there. Not many races you go to have a huge buffet lunch after the race with a free OPEN BEER KEG. There is also a huge raffle at the end where almost everyone win’s something.
This year had quite a few battles out on the course. Including a HUGE draft pack of about 7 or 8 paddlers at the start of lap 2. It was pretty cool to see.
Brian Meyer of Annapolis won this years race by a good amount followed by Goose and Brian S. There was a great battle between Jeff Cook and Nick Bollinger for 4th. On the 12’6 side it was Trevor Raithby, Jason Phipps, and Chris Sperry rounding out the top 3. On the ladies side Josetta Lata, Kate Dowling, and Lianne Dunbar finished 1, 2, 3.
Great race by everyone!! Next up Paddle Second Chance and the East Of Maui Race. https://paddleguru.com/races/StandUpPaddleAnnnapolisKIOCCHoloNiuRace2015
