Well, Paddle Second Chance was a huge success. Over 100 paddlers showed up to support such a great cause!!! The course was very challenging with a lot of chop. I hear there were a lot of people falling into the water-ha-ha. There were also some of the closest races that we have ever seen.
This is what you have to love about the sport though- At any given race anyone can win. People have bad races and some people are better in chop than others. It’s what makes the sport great. There were a few upsets this weekend and a few racer ranking changes!!
In the Men’s 14′, it was a sprint to the finish. One of the closest races in a really long time, 8 seconds separated first and second place. Goose Norman (Annapolis) just edged out Ron Gossard (OC) at the end. Brian Meyer (Annapolis) was only 20 seconds behind Ron which is pretty crazy.
On the Men’s 12’6, Shendan Grove (Annapolis) was able to jump up to the new # 1 spot by beating out Chris Sperry (Annapolis) and Scott Jorss (DC)!
In the women’s race, Kathy Summers (DC) was able to pull the upset and edge out Dawn Ehman (OC) by literaly 3 seconds. 3 SECONDS!! How crazy is that! Corinne Banks was just behind them.
The BOW Round 3 also took place with Brian Keane (OC) taking down Wyatt Everheart (Baltimore). Keane has upped his trash talk game but Wyatt has been getting closer and closer!! Just so everyone knows these guys are best friends and this is all in fun- haha.
Great job to everyone who raced and especially to those who put on a great event for an even better cause… If you have some pictures send them our way Marylandsup@gmail.com !!
