It’s not in Maryland but it’s in our neighboring DC. The Wcc Kumu’ohu is a great race down on the Georgetown waterfront at the historic Washington Canoe club. It’s never been a huge race for sup, it’s more of an outrigger race but that is slowly starting to change. This year with it being a Masra event the numbers should rise. Nathan Bankson (Virginia) will be defending his 1st place finish at last year’s event.
The course is pretty protected but can have serious wind and currents at times. It used to be a 10k but they have shortened it to an 8k this year which is nice. Most racers will do it just to finish and not worry about place, since everyone is still thawing out from this brutal winter. The course itself is awesome! If you can take a second to look up during the race you can get some great views of the capital and downtown Georgetown. That is easier said than done during a race though haha.
Hope you can make it to this great event!
