Well, I was just informed that I did not give an update on the “BOW” (Battle Of the Weathermen). Credit Ron Gossard for the name! I put it in the recap of the WCC race but a battle such as the BOW deserves its own post.
The race started with a little smack talk at the starting line as both Brian Keane (CBS/Fox wboc Delmarva) and Wyatt Everhart (ABC Baltimore) lined up side by side. The current was kicking and both were itching to get out in front early. The first stretch of the course was a down- current run, maybe a little less than a mile, then a long up-current run for most of the race. Brian has a brand new 14’ Kings and Wyatt has a brand new 14’ Infinity, both similar in dimension so it was about to get real!!
With a bang of the start gun (or some guys voice that said go), the race started. There was some nudging and pushing, but Brian got out in front early. Wyatt was right on his tail for a while until Brian was able to put a little distance between them to close it out. Brian came across the line with a big ol’ grin on his face looking back for Wyatt, I am pretty sure there was some fun trash talking going on post-race(all in good fun as Brian and Wyatt are good buddies).
Did Brian get that much faster over the off-season? Did Wyatt going for a long paddle the day before the race hurt him? Only time will tell as the next batch of races are a month away today.
BOW score after race 1:
West Side 0 East Side 1
